Donate to the Museum

The Richland County Historical Museum accepts donations of time, money, and artifacts.  If you are interested in volunteering your time at the museum or making a tax deductible donation please contact the museum.  If you would like to learn more about donating an artifact to the museum, please read the guidelines below before contacting the museum.

Item Donation Guidelines
Thank you for considering donating your treasured family heirlooms to the Richland County Historical Museum.  We take pride in preserving and sharing the history and stories of Richland County and its residents.  At this time, the museum is specifically collecting artifacts that relate to daily life in the county, prominent sites and citizens, and our veterans.  Potential donations must meet at least two of the following criteria:
  • Items must relate to the museum mission and scope of the collection;
  • Items represent significant people, sites, businesses and organizations within the county;
  • Item is unique and is not duplicated in the collection;
  • Item fills a gap in the collection;
  • The item’s condition is appropriate to display.

Before making a donation, please email the museum at [email protected] to discuss the item that you are interested in donating.  Please include the following information, if possible, with your inquiry:
  • A photograph of the item
  • A detailed description of the item
  • County connection
  • History or provenance of the item

If the museum accepts your item, it can be brought directly to the museum or sent via the USPS.  We cannot accept items sent to the museum through UPS or FedEx due to our limited hours of operation.  A Deed of Gift must be filled out when an item is donated.  Paperwork will be mailed to the donor in cases where artifacts are sent through the mail.

Please be aware that museum staff and the Board of Directors reserve the right to reject any potential donation.  Items that are not related to Richland County and its residents will not be accepted.  Items may also be rejected based on size constraints, condition and care requirements, and the existence of similar items in the collection.  The museum is also unable to accept unsolicited donations.  More information about donations can be found in the museum’s Collection Development Policy.
